Navigating the gradebook
Dropping the lowest score from a category
Creating a Scale
Scales are useful for pass/fail grading or for point values using decimals (e.g., 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, etc.).
Steps to create a scale:
Open Excel.
In cells A1 and B1, input the first two numbers (e.g., 0.5 and 1).
Highlight both cells.
Use the small black square in the bottom right corner of the selection to drag the series to the desired maximum value.
Save the file as a CSV format.
Open the CSV file in Notepad and copy the values.
-
In your course on LearningHub:
Go to Gradebook Setup.
Click Scales under "Grade Administration".
Scroll down and select Add a new scale.
Name your scale (e.g., “0.5–7 scale”).
Paste the copied values into the Scale field.
Click Save changes.
Adding Extra Credit
You can add extra credit either to a specific category or to the entire gradebook.
To add a grade item as extra credit:
Go to Gradebook Setup.
Click Add grade item.
Name it (include "EC" or similar to indicate it's extra credit).
Set the point value.
Click Save changes.
Edit the settings of the grade item and check the Extra Credit box if not using a parent category.
To create an extra credit category:
Create a new category (e.g., "Extra Credit") and check the Extra Credit box.
Move all related grade items into that category.
Do not check the extra credit box on the individual items within the category.
